چکیده

Values for total amino acid nitrogen and for certain individual amino acids in cerebrospinal fluid have been reported in the literature. The values for total a-amino acid nitrogen show some variations, perhaps depending on the methods employed. Weichmann and Dominicke (I), using the Folin calorimetric method, report values of 1.2 to 2.0 mg. per cent, while Christensen et al. (2), using the manometric ninhydrin procedure, report 1.04 to 1.43 mg. per cent of amino nitrogen. Harris (3) has reported the glutamine content of cerebrospinal fluid to be 6.0 to 11.9 mg. per cent. Christensen et al. (2), using chemical methods, report the glycine values for spinal fluid to be about one-tenth and the alanine values to be about one-third of the corresponding values for blood plasma. We are presenting results of the determination by microbiological methods of eleven individual amino acids in spinal fluid.

Citrulline as a diagnostic parameter and a major amino acid constituent of cerebrospinal fluid in hepatic coma.

Free amino acids of cerebrospinal fluid and serum in hepatic coma have been studied. Citrulline was found to form about 80% of the total free amino acids in cerebrospinal fluid, whereas serum contained slightly higher levels of tyrosine, methionine, phenylalanine and glutamine. The higher level of citrulline in cerebrospinal fluid may be attributed to the inhibition of argininosuccinic acid syn...

A method for the determination of glutamine in cerebrospinal fluid and the results in hepatic coma.

The free amino-acids normally present in cerebrospinal fluid are leucine, valine, alanine, glycine, serine, and glutamine. The concentration of each amino-acid is much less than that found in plasma, with the exception of glutamine, which is in higher concentration in the cerebrospinal fluid. Walshe (1951) examined the cerebrospinal fluid of three patients in hepatic coma by paper chromatograph...

Cerebrospinal fluid proteins and free amino acids in patients with solvent induced chronic toxic encephalopathy and healthy controls.

The concentrations of protein, albumin, IgG, and free amino acids in the cerebrospinal fluid of 16 patients with chronic toxic encephalopathy due to organic solvents were measured. The patient group consisted of all patients with this diagnosis in a neurological department in 1985. The diagnosis was based on neuraesthenic symptoms, pathological psychometric performance, and verified exposure to...

Putative amino acid transmitters in lumbar cerebrospinal fluid of patients with histologically verified Alzheimer's dementia.

Concentrations of individual free amino acids were determined in lumbar cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from patients with various complaints including histologically verified Alzheimer's dementia. Glycine and glutamine in the CSF of Alzheimer's dementia samples were lower than that of control samples. Only the concentration of glutamic acid in Alzheimer's dementia patients correlated with psychologi...

Soradic ulcerative mutilating acropathy with imbalance of free amino acids in the cerebrospinal fluid.

A case of sporadic ulcerative mutilating acropathy is described. Muscle biopsy showed signs of neurogenic atrophy. Motor nerve conduction velocity was slightly reduced. The muscles of the foot were completely unresponsive to electric stimulation of both femoral nerves. The content of free amino acids in serum and cerebrospinal fluid was determined by ion exchange chromatography, and compared wi...
